I Took A Break.

Yes, I took a break from writing. It has been over a hundred days since I last wrote on Medium. I do not think I had a burnout, but I had to prioritise other things before writing. It was tough at first to admit that I needed a break from writing, because i am supposed to be “serious” at this, be better at time management and ultimately someone who works hard.

Aside from the fact that I am starting to have more work assignments at my current job, I was also preparing for my Chartered Accountants exam which was on the fourth of May. Full time work and part time studies is demanding on its own, so I really should be more proud of myself for the work ethics that I have.

Taking a break taught me how to walk away from comparison. It wasn’t so much about hitting the numbers of followers on social media, or getting a certain number of views per day. Rather it was about my own financial or investing accomplishments. I always felt that I had to prove my worth by getting a higher return when compared with others. As someone who writes about personal finance, I always feel like I have to deliver higher or better returns in order to qualify myself as a finance blogger per se. Just like how no one takes advice from an obese personal trainer, no one listens if you do not have great returns.

We always hear about stories of people turning $100 to $10,000 but not those who lost it all. From the saga at Gamestock to the rally in Dogecoins, we have to remember that every winner comes with a loser. Over the hundred odd days of being absent on Medium, I had some crazy time on the stock market. One of the shares I held was finally let out of a trading halt (after nine months or so) and the share price tumbled more than 90% within the same day. What a nosedive! Within the same timeframe I have also started investing (skeptical term for some) in cryptocurrency (I know, not an early adopter).

As the tax season/peak period draws closer with my final module coming up soon, I will do my best to keep this page active, and most of all useful and helpful to people who are looking out for such content.

2020 has been crazy, but it appears that 2021 is going to be a crazier year.
